About Me
My name is Jacob Huibregtse and I'm a Technical Writing and Communication major in the information technology and design sub plan. I am also completing a Leadership minor. My project involved creating a set of allergy safety infographics and completing a usability test to determine the effectiveness for specific groups of people.
Abstract
My capstone project focuses on the eight major food allergens recognized by the United States Food and Drug Administration. These major allergens include Milk, Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Soybeans, Fish, Crustacean Shellfish, Wheat, and Eggs. My project is in the form of two infographics that will include an overview of what a food allergy is, the different forms and causes of reactions, information of the eight major food allergens, as well as specific practices and general safety protocols to be aware of.
What did you learn from this project?
The biggest thing I gained from this project was a sense of tailoring to what people need and understand my audience. For example, I stated that people should stay away from foods with (this) on the label, rather than dive into what manufacturers mean when they include (this) on the label.
What do you hope audiences take away from your work?
I want those with food allergies to feel safe and like they have a sense of guidance from the infographics. That means being comfortable wherever they are (infographics hung at home so guests know of your allergy, at the office so people know there’s a person with allergy) when i had a reaction half the friends I was with had no idea what was happening.
What do you hope audiences will ask you about?
The choices on the content included on my infographics.
