interactive poster about the project.
What did I do?This project provides a case study for examining the divide between theory and practice concerning conversion to and implementation of DITA-based content management systems. The focal point of this project is the conversion project I am leading at 3M Fall Protection, whose challenges and successes I compare with traditional DITA best practice.
What did I learn?
I learned from this project a better appreciation for DITA theory and best practice. I believe it is something we should always strive to implement in DITA implementations. However, I also recognize the importance to adapt to workplace constraints, which sometimes requires changes. Ultimately, I have gained a better understanding of iterative design and what that means in a DITA context.
What do I hope audiences take a way?
I hope the audience will find a robust case study that is also approachable. I would like for my case study to encourage those who are experiencing similar challenges and to reaffirm the relevance of theory for those who are on the fence about it.
What do I hope audiences ask me about?
How does your template approach work? How successful has your approach been? What is your vision for iterative design in DITA implementation?
