Objectives:
1. Become familiar with the most up to date clinical data on neonatal platelet transfusion practices and patient outcomes.

2. Recognize that in addition to their hemostatic functions, platelets are also active immune cells.

3. Gain an understanding of potential mechanisms behind the increased morbidity and mortality associated with liberal neonatal platelet transfusion practices.
