Jonathan Poquiz, PhD, LP, presents: Nonbinary Identity and Embodiment: Perspectives from Nonbinary Adolescents and Young Adults

Existing research studies on nonbinary people are largely focused on samples of nonbinary adults. Understanding nonbinary identity in nonbinary adolescents and young adults (AYA) is crucial, as adolescence and young adulthood is a critical period of identity development. Further, understanding the lived experiences of nonbinary AYA (e.g., experiences being affirmed in their identity, experiences of dysphoria) holds important clinical implications to inform efforts to address health disparities and work towards health equity for nonbinary AYA. This qualitative study centered the voice of nonbinary AYA in describing their identity development, experiences of affirmation, dysphoria, and transition.
