The counterfactual causal model has been hailed as a breakthrough in research methodology because it clarifies the assumptions necessary for causal inference. The purpose of the talk is to describe the counterfactual mediation model, how it provides a more general approach to statistical mediation analysis, and how it is related to traditional mediation analysis.  Future directions and roadblocks of the application of the methodology are described.
