Sexual and gender minorities (SGMs) are subjected to a myriad of physical and mental health disparities across the life course. Despite these profound disparities, theorizing concerning the psychosocial developmental processes experienced by SGMs are centered within cis-heteronormative milestones. Queer Time redefines traditional timelines of life milestones—such as career, relationships, and family—by centering the unique life triumphs and challenges experienced by SGMs. Queer Time challenges the mainstream, linear progression often expected in cis-heteronormative frameworks, offering a lens that values resilience, flexibility, and alternative paths. Through the utilization of this framework, scholars
can begin to understand how SGMs generate personalized developmental trajectories that defy historical conceptualizations of psychosocial maturation in areas like education, career, and personal relationships. Dr. Curtis will discuss how Queer Time impacts psychological development, identity formation, and community connections, while discussing the challenges and opportunities that come with living "on a different schedule".
